Hello Susannah. As you can imagine, we are not in the practice
of touting Westie breeders. Our major objective here at Westie
Rescue of CA is quite obviously placing the rescued Westies
in our care. And, since this is not a chat list, we will direct
you to use our email (WestieRescueCA@cox.net)
for your question. We will provide you with a source of reputable,
responsible Westie breeders. Thanks
Fantastic website! :-) Thanks for all the great information
and adorable photos. We've had Gavin and Ryley, our two Westie
rescues, for almost a year now and they add so much sunshine
to our life! Keep up the good work.

We obtained info from a Kennel Club participant regarding
a show in Ventura. Joan and I went to it hopefully to view
some Westies. To our surprise we met a couple named Carol
and George ?? forgot their last names who provided us with
your brochure and the web site data. They had with them a
Westie named Peetie ? A estimated 5 year old rescue. What
a great dog. We are serious about obtaining a Westie and are
going to fill out your application and mail same to you. Living
in New England a number of years ago when our 4 children were
in grade school we purchased a ST. Bernard. Raising our children
along with "Brandy Von Zee" was a great deal of
fun. Unfortunately at 9 years or so Brandy left us, that was
in 1978. We moved from PA to CA in 1979, and finally decided
it would be a good time to have another pet as our family
has grown and all are out on their own. In researching the
Westie's along with other Terriers we feel that a Westie would
be a great fit for Joan and I. We thank you for the data on
the web site as we have found it very very informative. Look
forward to visiting with you and moving forward in obtaining
a Westie. Regards

We have two Westies now and they are like our children. When
the time comes for another, we will come to you first.
18-Jan-04 8:37 PM: Name: Carole Well, what a wonderful surprise to see such nice comments
from Hank and Joan. It truly was a great day at the Ventura
County Dog Show, just ask "P.D."! He had such a
great time, especially when we met Hank and Joan! Obviously
you do not have to be a show dog to be fabulous! My new boy
is best in show everywhere he goes. P.D. could now be the
"unofficial" poster boy for "Westie Rescue
of CA". He likes the important title. The joy we have
sharing "his story" is so great. I am so grateful
to have a second hand dog and to be a part of this great world
of Westie Rescue of CA! RESCUE is such a rewarding experience!
Thanks to all that have listened and expressed an interest
in my adventures and P.D.'s big adventure too. No doubt, more
to come. All our best, Carole, George and P.D too!
21-Jan-04 12:02 AM: Name: Sarah Lane Love your informative website!!! Thanks so much. My Westie
had the initial stages of a skin problem and I put her on
the Westie diet recommended on your website. Within 6 weeks
she was much improved and has shown no signs of regression.
But now I am concerned about the red meat in the "Westie
diet " and am reducing the red meat and substituting
ground turkey in equal amounts. I am also discontinuing the
barley dog but don't know what to substitute(?) I cut back
as Barley Dog seemed to cause loose stools but it really only
improves when I totally eliminate the Barley dog. Any suggestions
regarding replacements for the nutritional support that the
Barley Dog provided? I may just add steamed broccoli and other
greens. A friend says she uses grass from a health food store,
unprocessed-just cut and mixed with the food for her dogs.
Would like to hear from you on alternatives. My Westie LOVES
the Westie Diet.
23-Jan-04 12:54 AM: Name: Susan
Hi Sarah. In our experienced but humble opinion, there really
isn't need for concern over the small portion of 'red' meat
in the Westie diet. By substituting turkey you are adding
different proteins elements, which may give different results.
We wouldn't suggest changing the Westie Diet ingredients,
only if your dog is truly allergic to beef products. The barley
dog provides active enzymes, vitamins C & E, beta-carotene,
amino acids, chlorophyll, proteins and essential trace minerals.
This additionally could not be replaced by simply adding 'greens'
and/or broccoli. Barley Dog is a highly palatable vegetable
supplement for dogs. It's active enzymes, effectively breakdown
the proteins (there are 3 types) for proper processing by
the dog's system. You can obtain live Barley Grass, but again
it is not stabilized to provide what Barley Dog does.

I have enjoyed looking over your site and am looking forward
to getting my own Westie. I've had many four legged friends
and they have all gone on to more important things to do.
I know we will see each other again some day. I've tried contacting
several rescue sites but do not receive response via phone
messages. Could you suggest how I might join this elite membership
of Westie companions? Still looking for the right little friend
to share my space with. Thanks for any help. Lee
11-Feb-04 8:53 AM: Name: Susan
Hello Lee. Aaaah, you have been smitten by our breed! Bravo!
As you probably know, to be considered for a rescue with our
organization an application must be completed, a personal
cover letter prepared and submit the processing fee to our
PO Box as indicated in the section Adopting A Westie. You
are right about owners of Westies becoming an "elitist"
group.....I am guilt for about 25 years now!

Hello Denise. Please send your contact information to our
email address: WestieRescueCA@cox.net because we are in the
process of organizing our 2004 Westie Calendar Photo Shoot

ALL Westies. We have such a fun time and it is so nice to
meet other Westie owners, swap stories and information. Hope
to see you and Val there this year. All dates and information
will be posted on our website as soon as all the plans are
made......stay tuned.

I had to have my sixteen yr old Westie, Muffin, put to sleep.
I just read your Rainbow Bridge article. I hope that is where
Muffin is. Friday, Feb. 20 2004 was the single most horrible
day in my life. My little buddy, and comforter had to go to
sleep. She had congestive heart failure. My physical heart
actually ached.
Anyway, I have
been looking for a Westie since last week. I have found some
at rescue organizations but none of the organizations are
nearly as professional and caring as yours. The dogs aren't
usually in very good shape. Unfortunately, I live in Mississippi
so I guess it would be inconceivable that I could adopt one
of your sweet Westies. I just wanted to let you know your
organization is much appreciated by me. I learned a lot from
reading everything on your web page. I would love to have
a 4 to 6 yr old Westie. My kids are grown and out of the house
so it's just me and my husband. He also loved Muffin very
much. I know I can't replace her but would love to have another
Westie to love. I struggled through some skin allergies with
Muffin but nothing too bad. Does your recipe for Westie food
help inhibit the skin allergy? When I get my new Westie I
want to take very good care of him/her. Muffin was loved by
all of my friends and family. It has been just amazing the
outpouring of love and support since Muffin died. Cards, phone
calls and flowers have helped me get through the worst of
it. I will never, ever forget her.

Hi Kat. Yes, we would imagine your beloved Muffin is waiting
at The Rainbow Bridge along with all our other passed Westies.
I personally, have several waiting there and I can hardly
wait to see them again...full of vim and vigor acting like
puppies again.
Remember the
national website to search for a Westie Rescue organization
in your state and/or area; http://www.WestieRescue.com. Wonderful
national contact organization, no political agenda there.
Please accept
our sincere condolences on the passing of your wonderful companion
and family member, Muffin. Sending a giant hug to you and
yours at this time of need.

I love Westies. They have the cutest faces. Paris, my Westie,
is the happiest dog on Earth.

On Dec. 31, 2003, we let go our little Yorkshire Terrier,
Princess, after 8 wonderful, fun filled loving years with
her. She suffered multiple organ failure. Her ashes sit in
a special place in our family room. Since then, we have been
searching everywhere for a new pet to fill the void that Princess
left behind. Just a week ago, we happened to find your website
and we have been checking it out everyday. We love your website,
and we've been researching more about the Westies. Because
of that, our desire to have one has grown more and more each
day. I will be mailing in our Adoption application and look
forward to being qualified to having a Westie in our home.

We had to put our much loved Tasha down last August. She was
our second Westie and even seven months later, we look to
take her our for her nightly "biz" before going
to bed, save some of our breakfast for her...well, anyone
who has lost a dog knows what I mean. Our plan was to wait
until about September to start looking again, but oh...that's
just too far away we NEED to have a furry friend to keep us
"on track". Am now going to search for the application,
get on a list...
9-Mar-04 8:35AM: Name: Susan
Hello Sylvia. There is nothing like a Westie once you have
been privileged enough to become their 'staff'. We know the
heartache you must be feeling, our thoughts are with you and
your memories of little Tasha. Adoption can sometimes
take several months, a suggestion would be to apply as soon
as you feel up to it. Good luck.
