We lost our baby, Abbey, on the 13th. How I wish I found your site long ago. She was only 7-1/2 and we only had 5 yrs with her. I notice labored breathing on Friday night. We took to the vet on Sat. He could only do one chest xray because she stressed too much. You couldn't even see heart because of all the fluid. So he sent us 35 miles away to an emergency hospital that could do an ultra sound. They found a mass in her lungs. Neither of these vets knew of the Westie Lung Disease. Had we known maybe we would have been able to detect some early warning and she might have been with us a litt while longer. She was the closest thing to God-Love you can get from an earthly being. God bless you for what you are doing. Life is too short not have a Westie in it so we are staring look for another Westie to love and to love us.

Hello Dawn and family;
We are so sorry to hear about your beloved Abbey. Our deepest condolences to you and your family.
Life is too short not to have a Westie's love again in your home and hearts. Please open your home to one of our rescued Westies. You will know that love once again....we promise!
As one door closes another opens...always. Thank you for your loving post.

We just lost our precious Westie, Bonnie, 17 years old. She was a member of our family, and I still can't believe she is gone. I loved her spirit, her intelligence, and loyalty. She was a very special dog. Will I ever find a dog that special again...doubtful, but I would love a chance with another Westie...

I have a nine month Westie who seems lonely (lethargic and bored) when I'm working....even though I'm at home all day with her. She's recently had surgery for hip dysplasia but seems to be recovering physically. She loves being with other people and family....and adores other dogs. I wonder if she needs a "brother or sister".....

Hello Penelope;
Your 10 month old Westie, needs to fully recover from her surgery before bringing another brother/sister into the household. Reinjury can occur, if not properly 'eased' into a rehab routine.
Usually, this type of surgery requires months to return the appropriate muscle, hip/leg usage, etc. Usually requires regular and monitored appropriate excersises to strengthen (but not stress) the affected area. Because your female Westie is very young and playful, it is our opinion you should wait to bring another companion animal into your home and heart. There is plenty of time after her 'mending period' is over.
Thank you for your great question.

Hello Debi;
We are very sorry we do not ship our Westies. We will suggest that you go on this national website to seek a contact and/or rescue group in your area. www.WestieRescue.com. Good luck, remember support rescue rather than buying from a pet shop, through the internet, the newspaper or the like. There are wonderful rescued Westies who would like to know your love.

Thank you for maintaining this website and your rescue work. Our westie Callie, Lady Callandra when she wishes to be formal, is the leader of our 3 dog family. We also have a teacup poodle and a German Shepherd. Our shepherd was rescued from an abusive situation and Callie has taken the lead in teaching her how to play and get along with others.

I just ordered the ingredients for the Westie diet and am hoping for the same dramatic results I've read about on your website. I do have a few questions. Presently I'm using Nutro's Ultra kibble. Is it OK to continue this or should I feed him only the Lamb and Rice? Also is there anything I can do to get rid of the staining on his feet or will that go away over time? I've used many stain removers but currently none seem to do the trick. He also is being feed twice a day. Can the Westie Diet be divided in half or should I start to feed him once a day?
Thanks for your help.

Hello Ric;
You should prepare and serve the Westie Diet as it is written. You may prepare one bowl, divide it and feed two times a day as our website indicates (remember to refrigerate the remaining).
Staining of the feet can be managed by: 1. Carefully clipping all the 'pad' fur from in between the toes and pads. This will keep the foot dry and will harbor less bacteria or fungi. 2. Obtain a human foot powder which is medicated; antifungal for athlete's foot. At night, after the dog is in for the evening, sprinkle on the 'walking side' of each foot. Rub in all on the toe area and in between the pads. This will take away the stinging or itch....which is why they lick. Wet feet and/or keeping them wet will lessen the itch or sting. 3. You can also rinse with warm water and towel dry the dog's foot when they come in from grass. This rinse should be done prior to administering antifungal powder.
Good luck and let us know how it is working. Thank you for your post.

This is a wonderful website...very informative and sweet pups. I am considering adopting a Westie as a companion to my other larger dog. They'd make a great couple! Thanks for all the info!!

I have visited your website several times in these last few days as we have lost our beloved Cocker "Freckles", who I know has crossed the bridge to be with my dad, whom he loved so much also, I find your website very comforting and looking at these little darlings lifts my spirits immensely. Our little boy "Cuddles" is now looking for a little brother to share his happy home with and his Mom and Dad. We are looking to adopt a Westie (I had one when I was a little girl), to help him with his companionship and the loss of his brother also. I thank you so much for all the uplift that your website has given me and know that we will hopefully have another playmate and companion for our little boy soon. God Bless all of you for your countless hours of work and compassion for these adorable little dogs.
