My husband and I lost our sweet Breezy, a rescue Westie, a few months ago to cancer. We miss her so much, and so does her Yorkie sister. We sent in an application earlier this week, and hope to hear from you soon!

Hello I am relocating to Moreno Valley from Wilmington CA and we are settling into a house instead of a townhome for more space for our daughter. Once we are settled we have decided we would love to adopt a Westie, we looked into breeders, but we really like to help those who need homes. The only thing is our daughter is just now 3 years old and she knows to be tender but she is still a child. Would we be able to be matched with a Westie that would be a fit for our lifestyle and vice versus? My fiance' and I both work from home and our daughter is an only child so she gets lonely when we have to work. We really think having a great dog to be a companion and also a great addition to the family would be nice. We also were looking for a Westie that was at least a year old, is that ok with a child or should we look for younger? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Nathalie

Hello Nathalie;
Thank you for your contact. We would suggest waiting until your child reaches school age before adding a animal. On the whole Westies do not tolerate very small children. We receive so many who have bitten. It is not the Westies fault, they are pack hunting animals and may consider a very young child's actions threatening....thus a fear bite.

My westie, Mulligan, is about to turn 6 and has suffered skin problems since he was 4 months old. He's been on ALL of the medications out there (cyclosporine, atopica, cephalexine, methylprednisone, etc), food trials, medicated shampoos, and even holistic supplements- nothing has helped. I'm about to bite the bullet and take him for very expensive allergy testing. I've never tried the westie diet mainly because I can't find any research on it, only reviews. Is there any more info on it's development? Why it works? Is it effective for dogs with all types of skin allergies? After all my poor little one has been through, I'm ready to try anything! Also, he was just at the vet yesterday and had a scraping- no signs of yeast! Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello Jenica;
Unfortunately the guestbook is not the appropriate venue for an in depth question/answer session on dogs skin issues. Each situation is different and many more questions needs to be asked prior to offering our 30 years of experience within the breed. Please email privately, our Exec Director, Susan Reeves, who will want to personally contact via telephone. It is simpler than trying to diagnosis over the internet. Thank you for your contact, we are here to help.

I have a 17 week old male Westie. We are absolutely crazy about him. He and my husband have become inseparable. We got another Westie (female 10 weeks old). They are slowly becoming used to each other. My husband is concerned because now the male is not as playful with people as he was. Is this just a phase? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I hope I didn't make a mistake.

Hello Tasha;
Congratulations on your two Westies. Dogs are 'pack' animals, and tend to bond with like. Waiting until your male was older, say 9-12 months old, altered/neutered and obedience trained would have been ideal. He would feel bonded to the 'two legged' pack leader within the household. Now, with a young female within the house, he is reverting back to 'pack' mentality. Please make very sure to alter BOTH of your Westies for their health sake.
Good luck.....

We are grieving over our recent loss of our 14 year old Westie, Ted. He was such a blessing to us and was, simply, one of the coolest dog ever! As any owner of a Westie can attest, they are make the most amazing pets who, ultimately, become family. My family and I are seriously considering adopting a male Westie to accompany our sweet 3 year female Westie, Zoey. The photos posted on your website are precious and the descriptions of each dog make us smile.

As the adoptive mommy of 3 wonderful Westie Rescues, I was saddened to hear of Zoey's Bladder Cancer. I hope she is not in pain. She is such a beautiful Westie with such loving eyes. She is in our thoughts and prays and I have decided to sponsor her with a monthly donation. I am so happy there are wonderful people like you to take care of these truly exceptional animals. Thanks and God Bless Zoey and Susan both!

I have a three yr old male Westie that has round scabs all over, and they all seem to be flaking off like dandruff. He is NOT scratching, or trying to chew at his skin. What could this be and how do I treat it? I am in Mexico, and wanted to reach out to you before going to a vet here. Not that the vets aren't capable, I just want some opinions. Thanks alot!!!!!! Hello Tori;
Sorry, but to diagnosis unseen medical conditions would not serve your Westie well. Please take him to the Vet ASAP. Could be; ringworm or any other condition.
Sorry, but it is difficult to help owners where there are not photos or history.
Wish you both well.

Well my goodness! Thank you so much for your most kind words. We all appreciate the breed and want the best possible adoptive homes for them. Thankfully we find wonderful, loving adoptive homes. The dogs are so delighted to finally have a home again.
Hugs to all our adoptive homes and volunteers; Susan
