My name is "TANGO". I know, don't
laugh. Just how a Scottish dog came up with
a Latin name beats me! But, I am told by my
foster mom that I am a real "lover-boy",
so maybe that's why. Or, maybe my original owner
was taking Tango dance lessons at the time.....hum.
I am an AKC registered, altered male Westie
who's birthday is January 8th, 2002, who currently
weighs 21 lbs. And, I am all Westie still very
much a playful puppy (with big clumsy feet.....says
my foster mom), bouncing around, active, courteous,
boundless energy and love to go on my three
to four walks daily. I also like playing 'chase
me' with all the Westies here at my new foster
home. In my very short life, I have been shuffled
through seven owners. But, hold on now, I am
counting the breeder, oh yeah and the pet shop
where I was initially purchased in Newport Beach,
California. Seems, every time I get to ride
in a car, I am going somewhere else which I
will call home for awhile. But that isn't my
fault, the people who cared for me made some
inexperienced choices along the way and so I
suffered. Now, I am at my foster Mom's and I
like it here a lot. There are other Westies
that like to play with me, I chase them, they
chase me, we play with toys together and we
all go on wonderful exploring walks on the beach
and at parks. I actually get to ride in the
car, not to find another home, but to go to
the park and run and play. They have an enormous
toy basket filled with lots of squeaking toys
and balls.....I dive to the very bottom for
the toy I need at that particular moment. My
foster mom says she needs to train me to put
the toys back in the basket.......I pretend
I don't know what she is saying. I think she
speaks 'dog' because she just laughs at me when
I turn my head as if I am listening!
I was given up from my last home, which I liked
pretty well, until another rescue namely a Soft
Coated Wheaten, 10 month old male puppy crowded
my lifestyle......and 'Hasta la vista, Baby'.
When I was picked up at the boarding kennel
by a nice volunteer with Westie Rescue, I was
wearing an Elizabethan Collar and I had scabs
and now evidence of bite scars on my neck from
the terrible fights. The scabs are all healed
now, and I get along with both the males and
female Westies here at my foster home. Plus,
when the volunteers brought me to my foster
Mom's, my back foot was bandaged due to a major
toenail tear (you can see the huge bloody bandage
in the before photo). This happened while I
was boarded at a kennel where I was forced to
stay for about two weeks prior to my relinquishment
into Westie Rescue of CA. My newest 'old' owners
were deciding if they were going to keep me
or that 'interloper Wheaten'. Well, since I
am in rescue, guess who won that coin toss?????
Damn!
I was a pitiful sight and kind of a mess, with
a totally bad hair day happening. My toenail
was still bleeding through the bandage, I was
hopping on three legs, I had that darn Eliz-collar
on and oh yeah.......just look at my hair do!
Yikes, dyed blue floppy ears too boot! But my
transportation volunteers really, really liked
me and my foster Mom liked me anyway too. But
I noticed she giggled at my ears with 3 inch
hanging fur, which was dyed blue.....said it
had something to do with looking like that cartoon
dog named 'Blues Clues' on T.V. I don't know,
I don't watch that program, Animal Planet is
my thing. So, I now have a new Westie haircut
and I look kinda like everybody else here at
the house. My foster mom gave me my daily infection
prevention medicine for my toenail rip and changed
the bandages religiously. I was afraid she was
going to re-hurt my foot, but she talked to
me in a calm gentle voice and we worked through
that crisis. My toenail is all better and is
growing back nicely. I can walk on very long
walks without hopping now. My foster mom says,
"I run too well through the house......teehee".
I came with my very own swim vest, because I
was used to jumping into the pool at my sixth
owner's house. Well, my foster Mom's house has
a small 4 foot wide and about 18 inches deep
' water fall fountain' which is on the indoor/outdoor
carpeted patio deck. Dog gone it.......it has
floating rubber ducks in there.....gosh I thought
they were toys which I should play with.....so
I jumped in the fountain and came up with a
duck in my mouth the first day I was here. Well,
water splashed everywhere, so much so she had
to refill the fountain. But when I shook all
the water off, I didn't drop my prize...one
of the rubber ducks. My foster mom is great,
she just laughed, I like her lots. And, do ya
know what......she kinda likes me too.
I need a really, really.....no kidding this
time, "forever" adoptive home, which
can provide stability and lots of lost love.
I am professionally obedience trained and my
foster mom says that makes me special.......so
there! I know commands; heel, set, stay, drop,
no bark, come.........and of course the big
one.....'NO'. I was itching when I first came
to my foster mom's, so she checked and it wasn't
fleas because she put me immediately in the
bath tub. But now I am on the Westie Diet, which
I really love, so itching isn't a problem anymore.
I like taking baths, but when she uses the powerful
blow dryer I try to bite the nozzle if ya don't
watch me. I do okay with a regular hair dryer.
Cutting my nails is a bit of a problem, but
I am getting better. Hey, I just don't want
anybody handling my feet.......would you? I
have had all of my shots; DHPP, Bordetella,
Rabies (3 yrs), micro-chipped and AKC Registration
transferable. I am housetrained, can use a doggie
door, like rides in the car.....as long as I
can stay in the same house when I come back
from my ride. I like children, cats and other
female dogs......but need to be watched around
other males until properly introduced.
Could you take Tango into your heart and home?
Please? I promise I will love you forever.......
