I'm a mess! Me, at the shelter before they saved
me.
Me again, after a bath.
Here I am with my new brother, Robbie, on the
4th of July. (I'm on the left.) I clean up pretty
good, eh!

I am a recently neutered, male
who we believe is around 1-2 years old. I was
an owner turn-in at one of the kill shelters
in the high desert area of California. I am
really grateful to be in a clean, loving foster
home which is calm and reassuring. My foster
Mom said it was obvious from my poor condition
that I was not properly cared for by my previous
owners. When my foster Mom came to pick me up,
she drove home with the air conditioning on
and the windows in the car down.........she
kept saying 'yuck, yuck'. Guess I didn't smell
very good. I had electric fence wire, with pieces
of shrubs and tree leaves tangled between my
legs and tummy area. I had fur mats which were
4 inches wide X 1/2 inches thick all over my
body. My arm pit areas had open sores caused
by the electric fence wire wrapped in there
with fur. I had foxtails and stickers in my
feet, fur and all through the mats. Plus I didn't
smell very good. My fur was soaked in urine
and I hadn't had a bath in months. Well, I don't
remember my feet touching the floor at my foster
Mom's house until I was in the bath tub soaking.
She worked on my mats and fur for a long time,
talking to me in a low voice while trying to
untangle the electrical wire and cutting the
fur mats out. I gave her kisses because I knew
she was going to make me better. She cut off
all of my dead smelly fur. And put medicine
on my sores under my armpits. I feel much better,
and now due to my new diet I have new healthy
fur growing.
I have been recently neutered, my teeth scaled,
and while I was under the Vet pulled an additional
5 foxtails out of my inner ears. I am up to
date with all my shots (DHLPP, Bordetella and
Rabies). I am currently in my crate and housetraining
phase. That was evident when I decided to water
the side of my foster Mom's refrigerator......ooooops!
I actually am learning to walk on a leash, which
is something new for me. I don't wrap my foster
parents around lamp posts, tree trunks and rocks
any longer when I am on a lead. They tell me
all the time what a good boy I am. I am very
shy and timid but love individual attention.
Update - One Year Later
Message from Rory:
It has been such a wonderful year for me. Since
I moved in with my new Mommy and Daddy, and
new brother Robbie, I have been so happy. When
I came to my new home last August, I was afraid
of making people unhappy and would "freeze"
in place if anything happened. I also didn't
know how to run and play. Boy, has all that
changed! I still want to please everyone, but
I'm not afraid anymore. Plus, I can run really
fast, chase toys, and I love to ride around
in my dog seat in the car. Life is good!
