Original Story Below
Hey, POLLY here....
That is a new name for me, because my foster Mom says my original name wasn't appropriate for a cute, happy, friendly, loving little girl like me. She said that folks......not me! Whew...I kinda had a not-so-good start in my short lived life. See my original owners were using me to breed for their income. I guess that was ok, but they didn't really care for me very well. Westie Rescue of CA was contacted by some caring folks at a grooming salon where I was taken. See my original elderly owner 'dumped' me and another female Westie after bring us for, "baths only, I don't have the money to pay for grooming" he stated to the grooming salon staff. The grooming salon was beside themselves, they helped us and didn't even charge my owner. See we were matted to the skin, could hardly see out of our eyes and no amount of French perfume could help with our smell! The grooming salon talked our owner into giving us up. The next day we were literally 'dumped' off and shoved out of the back of his old pick-up truck camper shell. But, as it turned out, that was the best ride of my live, because it brought me to Westie Rescue of CA and my foster Mom's home.
Now, I am a happy little Westie, who's age is 7 yrs young. I am now dematted, my fur is cut a little short naturally (but that's okay for now), eating good food, have my very own crate which is clean and did I mention......toys! Yahoo! My transformation was made complete by getting all my shots (Rabies 3 yr, DHLPP, Corona, Bordetella), and of course I had to be altered. I also had an eye infection which was untreated until these nice Westie Rescue of CA folks took me to the Veterinarian. I probably will need some lubricating eye drops for the rest of my life, but it is too soon to tell. I know I am so much more comfortable, and don't squint my eye any longer. I am crate trained. I love taking long walks and I am so mindful that I come back to you just to make sure you know I appreciate being walked. I wag my tail all the time now, give kisses and don't mind my eye drops at all. I am working on my house manners and I can use the doggie door to the outside yard now. Although I am still wondering why that flap has to hit my head every time I go in and out.....hum? There is this funny smelling 'dog' next door, I think my foster Mom called "it" a 'cat'. Well, whatever, I hate it!!! I really like it when I can chase her up a tree, then I tell her with my bark to stay there. But, my foster Mom, as nice as she is, says I can't do that anymore. She suggests I find some other form of amusement....heck! I now take my walks with other fostered male and female Westies and I like them lots. My coat was not in good shape, it was stained due to the unclean conditions and the urine staining was pretty bad. But not to worry, my foster Mom has washed me (eeeech gads, several times) and I am getting my white coat back....thank goodness!
