I am a cute, affectionate, female named.....MISTY ISLE....(ya get the Scottish name....aye?)
Well let me tell you how I became available for adoption through these kind folks here at Westie Rescue of CA. See my Mom reluctantly relinquished me because she did not think she could care for me properly any longer. My Dad was the one who did the 'hands on' care, but when he died after a long sad illness, Mom didn't think she could continue caring for me. A lot of things had to change after Dad died, was not anyone's fault...just was. She said she was not physically nor financially able, I know Mom wasn't well herself and didn't think she could continue the excellent level of care I once had/ I sure miss them both, even though my foster home is pretty cool too.
I have to share what wonderful people volunteer to help out this organization. See, I was in the Northern part of the state and needed to come to a 'special care' foster home which was located in the Southern part of the state. A volunteer transport was arranged. My special volunteer, Maureen, drove the total 'leg' herself and returned home to ANOTHER STATE mind you! And my transporter, drove this very long distance during the huge winter storms that closed major highway traffic. What a great adventurous ride that was, at one point we were personally escorted by the Highway Patrol. During the long trip we sang together (well she sang, I just appreciated it...: - ), she had made a comfy bed behind the driver's seat of her truck so I could look out the window and she could see me too, we made several potty stops along the way and all the time she told me I was going like my new foster home. I was scared at first, but ya know what...she was right!
If you are thinking about adopting me, I need to tell you I have a condition called Addison's. It is also known as hypoadreocorticism. It is a disease that results from a decrease in corticosteroid secretion from the adrenal gland. People, John F. Kennedy for one, as well as dogs have Addison's, but the Vet told my foster Mom that it is rare in our arch enemy...cats! Maybe that's why we chase them.....hum? Where is Freud when ya need him? Anyway, it really is no big deal, I get a small chewable pill each day in a piece of turkey meatball or you could use something else. My Addison's medication cost about a $1.00 per day, but I should mention, that I need a blood test (ACTH) about every six months or at the direction of your own Veterinarian. So really I am not 'damaged goods', just have a medication controlled condition. The fine folks here at Westie Rescue promised my Mom that they would find just the right home, who doesn't mind giving my medication daily.
My DOB is 05/03/1998, they tell me I am AKC registered (guess that's the real deal), altered, otherwise healthy and am on the delicious Westie Diet (which I absolutely love! See website for recipe). I am good with other male and female dogs as long as they are friendly and want to play. They don't think I should have a cat companion of my own....darn it! I love walking on a leash, riding in the car, sun bathing, like to play with squeaky toys and if anyone of the dogs here is up for a good game of chase.....I am in! I sleep upside down on my back with my feet up in the air (my foster Mom smiles at that!). I am up to date on my shots (Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella, Corona). I also have a microchip too, that's so you can find me for dinner..tee hee!
Are you my forever loving home? Hope so, I promise to give you plenty of kisses....trust me I will! MISTY.....
