Henry

Hi My Name Is Henry The VIII (Eighth).... I am a young, we guess about 1-2 years old, neutered male Westie that was adopted out of the Humane Society in Carlsbad. I was a stray, running the streets, with fleas, ticks and matted 'dreadlocks'. I really, really was a mess! Both eyes were infected, one was swollen shut and my ears were so infected that my foster mom couldn't get the medicine down into my ears. I had to have lots of love and attention prior to being ready for adoption.

But hey baby, just look at me now! Yahoo, I am gorgeous.....all I needed was a little T.L.C. and some loving people to take care of me properly. I knew as soon as I was adopted, I was going to a better place and everything was going to me alright. Granted, I looked pretty silly for awhile because they had to cut off my fur because the mats were so bad they couldn't get them out. And, darn it....it hurt when they tried. The mats were tight against the skin and there wasn't any way they could be combed out. My foster mom threatened to put 'colored hair gel' in my fur....because I looked like I could try out for a punk rocker band until the fur grew back.

I have a darling face, am very curious about everything and everybody. Basically my foster mom says "I'm nosey". I am timid at first when you are new and approach I cower. But I am getting better about that because now I know I won't be hit or yelled at. My foster mom says that someone must have yelled at me continually and never loved or praised me ever. I can use a doggie door, have all my shots and rabies, am neutered, crate trained, love to walk on a leash and I have a doggie seat in my foster mom's car that I can look out the window....I love my car rides. I will bark at strange noises, but when my foster mom tells me it's alright I stop. My fur is growing back on my front and hind legs, which where chewed off due to fleas, allergies and generally being just disgustingly filthy for so long. I have a 'pretty cute expression and face' (my foster mom says that all the time....I like her a lot she's very nice to me). My new healthy hair is growing back good. And I am pretty excited to be in a place with lots of toys, I can play with them any time I want. I can play catch, fetch and know the 'set' command. My foster mom is working on 'shake'....I just want the treat she is offering.....sigh, we gotta do what we gotta do to get the treat...huh? I have a good appetite and love the Westie Diet I am on.....I will need to remain on this diet for my skin and coat health. I like to play with the other Westies buddies in the house.....my best game is chase. I will take a toy and shove it into the other Westies faces until they chase me......I love it!!!! But if I can't get them to play, I will throw a toy in the air and play by myself. I will roll over with the toy in my mouth and play. Sometimes, I just lie there on my back with the toy in my mouth.

I would do best in a house with no cats....I like to chase them, but they don't chase me back.....strange creatures plus they don't smell like us doggies. No young children under the age of 7 years, someone who will give me at least two good walks daily and keep me on the Westie Diet (it's good for my skin). I do need on-going reinforced housetraining so I don't slip back into my old habits. And, I need a comfortable couch on which to nap during the day! (That was my idea...tee-hee).
