DIETER (now Dexter)

Me and my new and best Mom Anne!

Thanks Westie Rescue !

Original Story Below

Hi...my name is DIETER..the handsome Westie (I added that!)..

I am a purebred, registered, altered, 19 mos old, DOB: 12-10.2005, male Westie. I was given to these kind folks at Westie Rescue of CA by my original owner. My foster Mom says I have a very easy going disposition and am very affectionate. Right now I am being fostered in a home with two other Westies; one male and one female. I like it here, cause it is calm and structured. Now, I know exactly what is expected of me.

Unfortunately, my first home had a lot of distractions, kids and no boundaries, I didn't do so well, as you can imagine. My family transferred from East to the West coast, got a new house, new work hours and I think they just forgot about my training and needs. My small kidos wouldn't leave me alone. I ended up biting one of them and I am real sorry. My foster Mom thinks my perfect adoption home would be a couple without children, maybe they have an in-home business or maybe a retired couple or single person. Yeah, I like that idea, cause I really like attention and to know I am loved. I could be your IT companion.

I like my foster home cause I get long walks, a few hours at the dog park and a good bowl of food. They have found I am not food aggressive, but eat every bite, leaving my bowl clean. I take treats from your hand very gently and I attach myself very quickly to the right human. Foster Mom thinks obedience school to learn commands and my new family will have to work with me on that potty training trick that humans find so necessary. I get along very well with my foster siblings and all the dogs at the dog park. My Foster Mom says I am very sweet and the right person would be lucky to have me. Yahoo! I like her lots! I am not a barker either.....can ya believe it! Don't tell my Terrier clan that piece of information. Just got a new summer Westie cut and the groomer's husband told my Foster Mom, she could not take me home!! Imagine that, I was so good! Darn, so close to finding my new forever home. Oh yeah, am up-to-date on shots (Rabies-3 yr, DHLPP, Bordetella) and have a microchip.

I was a bit unsure of my surroundings the first couple of nights at my Foster home, but I settle in very quickly and like a routine. I have a lot of energy, cause I am 19 months young. After my trip to the groomers, I raced around the yard feeling so good about getting all the matted hair off. My Foster Mom keeps saying how handsome I look and I am now feeling it. I was so dirty, but not anymore. My Foster Mom runs a tight ship around here and I learned crate/kennel also means going "bye-bye" and not just bed time. I am still way too excitable for young children, maybe over 10 years old could be okay. I like to be with my human family and I will suffer getting hot being snuggled so close to ya, rather than move away. Love the dog park, which is a new experience. I get along with everyone, human and canines alike. I love to chase and be chased. I come home so tired and sleep good all night in my crate/kennel. It would be great if you had prior Westie experience as I have that "selective hearing" thing, that my breed seems to have. I didn't have much structure in my old house, so I have a few commands to learn and a habit or two to shake ... but with the right love and attention, I could become the best dog you've ever loved. Please contact Westie Rescue of CA website to give me the chance I deserve.

Love, Dieter .......
