Original Story Below

Hi, I'm DORIE...the explorer....

That's cause someone found me wandering along, eyes so gooped up couldn't see, in terrible medical need and made the choice to drop me at the local high kill shelter. I was covered with fleas, ticks and foxtails. My eye was angry, inflamed, infected, red and swollen shut, my ears were smelly due to infection and I was scared to death of people. I was in such sad shape at the shelter, no owner came and everyone who saw me let out a 'gasp' of horror. No one wanted to adopt me. So, when Westie Rescue stepped up and adopted me, they knew this was going to take time AND be very expensive. But you know, that day was the start of my 'new life'. Oh, am I thankful, I don't want to remember what happened prior to my rescue. Thank you, thank you, thank you....things are looking up.

The volunteer who transported me to my Foster Mom's said things were going to be much better....and little by little they are. I was in such bad condition, the shelter choose not to spay/alter. I went to this nice Veterinarian who just kept shaking his head. He found foxtail entry and exit tracks all over my tiny body. Some areas were infected and several had to be tweezed out (ears, feet, anus area, feet pads). One bump was opened to find two foxtails. I was started on heavy antibiotics and to come back for recheck and spay/alter. At that Vet appointment, another bump ruptured and required surgery (4 hours). Lucky I was in a Vets office or I wouldn't have made it.

Also, took me to an Eye Specialist and Surgeon. He found two foxtails in between my eyeball and third eyelid. No wonder my eye was weeping and always red. Need daily eye drops for my 'dry eye' condition. That's nothing at all, compared to all I have been through. I am now spay/altered, think I am between 3-5 years of age, a purebred female, (sorry forgot my passport) Westie. My shots (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies-3 yr), microchipped, wormed, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm medications. Giardia test-negative. Love my new food, and eat every bite; The Westie Diet (not just for Westies however), it's yummy!

My foster Mom says I am a very sweet little girl, that isn't very pushy or even Westie like (with Terrior-tude), so she thinks a calm adoptive home, with no small kidos (10 years or younger), a fenced yard and has lots of time to give me tummy rubs. I like my couple of walks daily and actually now walk well on leash. I am living with other male and female Westies. Maybe my foster home could have another small dog, nothing too excitable please. Find comfort in my crate/kennel, take naps in there and sleep soundly all night. Like riding in the car, and going new places. Seems I wasn't exposed to many things previously, every day is a new adventure. Want a comfortable place to call my very own.

Dorie..wait'n for your love and to go home.
