Look who is just in…Rosie Ruth…

This owner surrender is just in to one of our loving experienced foster homes. Surrender was not due to Rosie, owners both worked fulltime with too much overtime. They just didn't have time to walk, exercise nor play with her.

Rosie is a purebred 5-1/2 years old, spayed female. She is vaccinated (Rabies-3 year, DHLPP and Bordetella). She will be microchipped prior to adoption and professionally groomed, which she enjoys. Updated 'glam shots' coming soon.

She walks on a leash well and enjoys regular scheduled exercise. She is crate trained, housetrained, travels well in the car in her kennel, does not dig in the backyard, but must have a very secure fenced and gated backyard. She gets along with male and female dogs large or small…even some cats. Our foster home has two other very mellow female Westies and two German Shepherds. She likes her playmate buddies.

Rosie has limited obedience training (sits on command, leash training and would be open to other professional training). Favorite activity playing with Kong, a ball and playing fetch. Not aggressive to adults but NO CHILDREN under 12 years of age. Will nip children, will not be good in a high excitement level and erratic activity homes.

We are looking for a settled routine household, calm but active with no children or grandchildren. Must have a schedule which permits planned daily activity.

Just in, under evaluation…

It's ROXXY…

This energetic outgoing girl is an owner surrender from a senior couple with major health issues. Thankfully they realized they could not give her the quality of life she so deserved. Not able to walk or exercise her on a regular daily basis.

She is an AKC Registered, 7 year old female, spayed, healthy Westie. Because of her home 'dormant' activity level and diet she is a little overweight. She must get on a regular daily exercise and walking schedule. Roxxy is up-to-date on her vaccinations (Rabies-3 yr., DHLPP, Bordetella), heartworm negative, and has a transferrable microchip. She is housetrained, walks on a leash well, loves car rides, knows some basic obedience commands (sit, stay, down, come). Requires a totally secure fenced back yard, with secure gate entry and doggie door access from house. She sleeps on owner's bed or in her bed on the floor.

Fireworks scares her, does well being groomed. She is intelligent and nosey, needs to investigate just what owners are doing. Happy playful attitude, good with other dogs (had a Westie companion in owner's home who passed) and tolerates all children over 10 years old. Her favorite activity is playing fetch and loves squeaky toys. No cats in home, she will chase them. No off leash dog parks, she will take off especially if gets out of yard or front door.

Requires an active home, exercise daily, proper diet care for weight control, another Westie or similar sized dog in home.

We are verifying all information, visit to our Vet for wellness exam. She will be available after our evaluation.

Just In, under evaluation…

Cutie Pie Mackenzie…

Owner Surrender, only one owner, have a 4 month old baby who may start crawling soon. Owner does not want baby gates up in the house, afraid Mackenzie will nip or bite baby.

Mackenzie, is 13 years old, spayed, female, who has severe dry eye and needs constant eye medication instilled in both eyes. She can see, if her medication is done properly. She is what we deem as a 'Special Needs' and qualifies for our 'Senior for Seniors' program.

We need to review her medical paperwork, surrender owner notes, have her evaluated by our Vet, behavior assess, and then decide what kind of a home she requires.

This is what we know now, if you are a Senior or are comfortable with a special needs dog, have a calm home, no small children or grandchildren, fenced yard, please complete one of our applications.

An updated story, glam shot will be placed on our website after she is settled in and we know more.

Meet EVAN…

Owner died, family members cannot care for him. EVAN, is a male, purebred Westie, 7 years old, neutered, housetrained (we will verify), and reportedly good with children and other dogs.

He is just in our program, so we have not verified surrender information. We need time to evaluate behavior, training, does have randomly treated skin issues so our Vet must evaluate and treat, obtain medical records from previous owner's estate and get professionally 'Westie' groomed.

Updated information will be placed on our website under adoption profiles. If you are interested in adoption through our organization, we must have a completed application which has been Tentatively Approved.

Meet POPPY…

This beautiful AKC Registered, spay, female, 9 year old was an owner surrender. Her caregiver owner passed away and the family was unable to care for her properly.

She is fully vaccinated (Rabies-3 yrs., DHLPP-3 yr., Bordetella), wormed, transferrable microchip and is healthy. House and crate trained, walks on leash good, travels in a car well. Has not been introduced to cats unknown outcome, probably not good. Lived in a very protective environment previously, not exposed to strangers, other dogs, children, outside noise. Non-aggressive but will become anxious and bark at new situations should be kept on a leash in uncontrollable situations. Never go to off leash dog parks. Does settle down once anxiety lowers. Owner will need to work with Poppy in new settings, situations with reassurance and guidance always on leash.

She is afraid of fireworks, storms, thunder and will run off if not on leash.

We are looking for a a calm but active home, able to provide daily, exercise, stimulation, a Terrier knowledgeable home would be an excellent fit. She likes to play with toys, sleeps in her dog bed at night and does need some training in basic obedience skills.

If you are interested in being considered for adoption of POPPY we must have a completed application that has been Tentatively Approved.

Hello I am ISSY…

An owner surrendered 5 year old, spay, female. My caregiver owner passed away and my family couldn't care for me any longer. ISSY is very friendly, energetic and loves her house, home, fenced yard and owner. You'll never go to the bathroom alone again!

She is vaccinated (Rabies-3 yrs., DHLPP-3yrs., Bordetella), wormed, has a transferrable microchip. ISSY is house and crate trained, sleeps on her bed in owner's bedroom. Loves backyard play time with stuffed toys or a small ball. Owner interaction is excellent. Does need fully fenced secure yard.

Is 'sight' oriented, will bark at animals on TV which will trigger playful behavior with her stuffed toys. Notices people outside her residence, other dogs, noises and may bark. Needs outside socialization on leash with new owner(s). Loves attention from newcomers in her home. Likes outside time in her yard. Enjoys walks, car rides and daily exercise. However, if given the chance she will run away. Non-aggressive toward people, other dogs, older children (10 years or older). Does not like fireworks or thunderstorms.

We are looking for a loving home, plus if Terrier experienced that is a plus, no small children or grandchildren (under 10 years old). Active lifestyle, able to give daily walks, excersise and stimulation. Fenced backyard, no off-leash dog parks.

If you are interested in being considered for adoption we must have a completed application that has been Tentatively Approved.

Meet BLAIRE…

This darling 7 year old, spay, female just in was an owner surrender. The owner's were a military family and unfortunately could not take her with them to their next base assignment. Thankfully they contacted Westie Rescue of CA & 7 Western States.

We are still evaluating her in foster care, but we know so far she is current on her vaccinations (Rabies-3 yr., DHPP-3yr., Bordetella), has a transferrable microchip and seems healthy and happy. BLAIRE is crate trained (sleeps in her crate at night), knows some obedience commands (sit, heel, down, stay and come), walks on leash well. Also knows phrases 'let's go outside', 'time for bed', 'time for walkies'. Travels well in the car in her bed/carrier. She is a climber, will scale a 3' fence with no problem. Must have secure fencing suggested 5' solid brick or block. Should not be left outside unattended or off leash. If given the chance she will run away. Non-aggressive toward people, other dogs, older children (10 years or older). Does not like fireworks, thunder or high pitched squeals of small children. Will chase Cats, so probably shouldn't have one as a house companion.

We are looking for a calm loving home, plus if Terrier experienced, with no small children or grandchildren (under 10 years old), who has a secure 5' or higher fenced (no chain link fencing) yard. Active lifestyle, able to give daily walks, exercise stimulation. Good in our foster home with other Westies and a large breed puppy.

If you are interested in being considered for adoption of BLAIRE we must have a completed application that has been Tentatively Approved.

He is an owner surrender because very elderly owner had a stroke, is hospitalized, has one whole side paralysed. She will not be able to come home any time soon, many months of rehab and physical therapy. Family could not take him due to existing their in-home animal dynamics.

He is a 2-year-old, male neutered, vaccinations current (Rabies-3 yr., DHLPP, Bordetella), and microchipped. We will take him to our Vet for a wellness check, will also do behavior assessment and fundamental training.

Meet Lucy…

This darling 7-year-old female, spayed is an owner surrender. She is quite well traveled as her family is in the military. She has lived in Germany, Florida, Tennessee and California. Now unfortunately they received orders again, this time out of the country. The family will not be able to keep up with her allergy routine and are fearful her skin issues will worsen. It was a hard decision but best for Lucy.

Lucy is up to date with vaccinations (Rabies-3 yr., DHLPP, Bordetella), and has a transferrable microchip. Housetrained, leash and crate trained, uses a doggie door, loves car rides, is good with children over 8 years, good with other dogs once introduced appropriately, but unfortunately cannot have a companion cat as she has a high prey drive.

She does require daily oral allergy medication, medicated baths 2 times per week and strict dietary food consumption. She is happy, playful and enjoys her family. She watches TV and does bark at animals on the screen but will quiet when a correct command is given. She knows obedience commands, but needs reinforcement.

We are looking for a hands-on owner, who can provide daily excersise and stimulation, with income to continue ongoing monthly cytopoint injections and daily allergy medication. A fenced back yard with a doggie door would be a plus.

Blush…Beautiful Senior Girl

This beautiful female, is a finished AKC Champion (award winning pedigree background). Registered AKC title name: Make The Boys Blush, that's why she is called BLUSH. Her drug crazed owner dumped her at a shelter because she was moving out of state. No call to the original breeder or to Westie Rescue of CA! Shameful!!

She has been to our wonderful and compassionate Vet. Now has all vaccinations (Rabies 1 year, DHLPP, Bordetella), wormed, heartworm tested (neg), full dental cleaning, polishing with 14 necessary extractions, and has a transferrable Home Again microchip.

She is house and crate trained, walks on a leash beautifully, working on using a doggie door (evidently this is new to her), loves car rides, gets along with male and female Westie housemates, nonaggressive, loves baths and blow dryer, very happy disposition all the time, tail wags constantly.

We are looking for a mature single or couple, no small children, adopters still active to take her on several walks per day, provide daily stimulation and activities. Must be fed soft nutritious food and treats due to all her dental extractions. Fenced backyard, patio or court yard would be excellent.

If you are interested, please get in your application. She does qualify for our Seniors for Seniors program where we verify income, do an in-home check and interview personal references. Adoption fee would be taken into consideration.

This darling female, est. age 2.5 yrs, to be altered, in treatment for yeast and bacteria skin issues. She has discovered the patio fountain dispenses water, just for her use apparently. She has all her vaccinations (DHLPP-3, Bordetella, Rabies-3), wormed, transferrable microchip. Crate and leash trained, loves rides in cars, still working on housetraining and using doggy door. Meet Jazzy…

Our AZ Primary Volunteer hopped in her car when AZ Humane Society called for this medical exit to Westie rescue only.

Poor Jazzy had about 60% hair loss over her entire body, and we found she has a slight heart murmur. We have taken her to our Vet, skin scraps indicated no mites, she is on antibiotics, and a compounded skin medication (she only weights 14 pounds). Our foster volunteer is giving medicated shampoo baths every 24 hours, her skin is not so pink and hot since the treatments started. So far the combination is working.

Jazzy is about 2 years old, currently not spayed because of the bacterial skin infection, is on The Westie Diet (excellent for skin issues) and will be in foster care until her skin heals. We are working on housetraining, learning to walk on leash, crate training as well.

Meet Luna…

This sweet little girl is 4.5 years old from a household that has moved 5 times in 1.5 years. Westie Rescue of Califonia has seen to her being spayed, got a complete dental, updated all vaccinations and received a transferable microchip.

Luna needs a home with no small children, walks well on a leash, enjoys car rides and reacts to skateboards and motocycles.

She's done well with being fostered with other female Westies, however she's "personal-space-reactive" toward sharing bedding, couch or being near humans first. Luna is housetrained and has learned the "doggy door" quickly. She's happy to be in a calm, scheduled life with regular meals.

Wiley, owner surrendered, major medical issues

So photogenic, does anything for treats! Sweet 7-year-old, neutered male, owner surrender. Up to date with vaccinations (Rabies-3 yr., DHLPP, Bordetella), transferrable microchip, fecal tested, heartworm and flea medication, all medical records.

Unfortunately, he will need to have double CCL surgery on BOTH back legs. He was surrendered with noticeable right hind leg/knee damage. The damage was supposed to be a pulled tendon (according to their Vet medical records). Vet's recommendations were limited activity, pain and Inflamation medications and crate rest.

Not the case…X-rays and a knowledgeable Vet examination revealed both back legs have CCL issues. We have used laser treatments, inflamation and pain medications, very limited usage, no walks, carrying him outside on potty breaks and about 70% crate rest.

We have the first speciality Vet surgery, on the right leg, scheduled on Friday, December 13. The estimated cost, providing there's not unforeseen additional damages is about $3,000.

We are doing extensive fund raising for both CCL surgeries. Donations gratefully accepted.

Well here's Westie Rescue of CA & 7 Western States incoming puppy…meet Chet…

So sweet, 7 months, neutered, male wiggle worm! His owners were moving out of the country and could not take him. We neutered him, obtained all his vaccinations (Rabies-1 year, DHPP, Bordetella), fecal and has a transferable microchip. He lives within a loving foster volunteer private home with both female and male Westies. He plays and interacts with other Westies well. He now walks on a leash good, is crate trained and is working on being housetrained (adoptive home must keep a strict potty and eating schedule going), learning sharing toys, housemanners and 'inside voice' commands. His face grooming was a little challenging due to arriving with a cheek gash/bite made by previous owner's other male Westie who attacked Chet.

He likes rides in the car, loves The Westie Diet and is still learning basic obedience commands (sit, stay, come, heel, off, down, etc). Highly motivated by treats, so easy to train. Will need an enclosed back yard, no small children (under 8 yrs), needs stable loving Terrier experienced home.

This darling Westie-blend, we believe is a Westie-poo, was owner surrendered due to the family falling upon financial hardship. Her estimated age is 2 years old, has been spayed, vaccinations current (Rabies-3 yr., DHPP-3 yrs., Bordatella). Fecal test negative and microchip is transferable after our two week trial adoption period.

This little cuddly stuffed puppy dog came to life! She loves to snuggle, cuddle and give kisses. The big basket of toys is so exciting, makes sure to give each one an equal time commitment. Doggie-door trained, is currently fostered with medium size and one large breed dog, no issues seen. We were told by previous owners gets along with 8+ year old children. Being young she is very playful, but obedient, lovable and has good house manners.

The ideal home has a fenced yard or appropriate time to exercise her daily walking, playing fetch and throwing the ball. Commits to keep her professionally groomed and brushed. She would do well with another dog or Westie. Require she say on The Westie Diet. So, if you are interested get in your application quickly. She will be an excellent addition to any family…CAMBREA LYNN.

This once beautiful and still deserving Westie female was literally 'DUMPED' on our rescue by the elderly owner's family members. BRYCE came wearing an Elizabethan collar/cone on her head. And we understand why! After taking her to our Veterinarian for this ongoing condition we were devastated at the condition and what it will take to get her well again. Discovered in her medical history, she suffered for many years before having an abscess burst back in 12/2013. Poor thing was hospitalized for 11 days and due to no follow through on medication, hands-on care, still has an active draining infection on the side of her face cheek.

Sadly, her condition was preventable early on, but the Dementia owner nor family stepped in to get her the appropriate Veterinarian care before it got this bad. BRYCE is suffering from what is commonly called 'Cauliflower Ear' or in humans known as 'Boxer's Ears'.

Unfortunately Bryce's surgery would be too extensive and risky for her age. She is now living a comfortable life in hospice care.

Please go onto our website and donate anything you can to help. We appreciate any amount, because it all 100% goes toward her long-term care.

Westie Rescue of California also serves: AZ, OR, NV, UT, ID, NM, and WA
